Birgit Rausing är konsthistoriker och arbetade som konstkritiker i dagspressen under 50-talet. Hon har medverkat i Allhems konstnärslexikon och skrivit flera stora konstnärsmonografier, senast 2010 om Agda Holst. 1990 blev hon fil hedersdoktor vid Lunds Universitet. Gad Rausing var fil dr i arkeologi.
