Plans to open a Gozo branch of Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry were first publicised by the government in March 2014. Vitals Global Healthcare (VGH) had initially been entrusted with the construction of the new medical school as part of a deal which saw the consortium also take control over the management of St Luke’s Hospital, Karin Grech and Gozo hospital.

Barts and The London Students' Association (BLSA) is the students' union for the medical and dental school, a largely independent arm of Queen Mary Students' Union (QMSU) formed when the student unions of St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School and the London Hospital Clubs Union merged with QMSU at the time their parent bodies merged in 1995 Barts and the London offer undergraduate programmes in medicine, dentistry and global health, as well as a range of intercalated degrees. Medicine Five-year MBBS programme (A100) The medical school is located in Whitechapel, while most other courses take place on the Mile End campus which is only a short bus ride or 20 minute walk away. This year, the accommodation for medical and dental students and allied courses students was in Whitechapel, Stepney Green and Barbican. Unlike some other medical schools, Barts does not offer an MB PhD where students study for 9 years and graduate with an integrated PhD as well as the medicine degree.

The Barts Medical School building consists of 8100 sq. meters over 4 floors. This includes a 150-seat auditorium, 2 computer labs (each for 70 students), a lecture hall for 125 students, a 250 sq. meter library and several simulation rooms, classrooms, offices, boardrooms and more.
